AN ISLAND-HOPPER’S PARADISE
PICTURE ME PICTURE YOU
YOURISM EATS EXPERIENCE
MUSIC TO MY EARS
60% of Stockholm is made up of waterways, parks and green spaces. So much water that there are 57 bridges! The capital stretches across fourteen islands. It’s on the east coast of Sweden where Lake Malaren flows out into the Baltic Sea. It is the political, economic and cultural centre of Sweden. It is also effortlessly photogenic. So much to do, so much to see.
DAY 1: AN ISLAND-HOPPER’S PARADISE
Stockholm is quite compact, meaning it is quite easy to island-hop via boat, train or even footbridge. Being so open and spacious, you can easily find yourself riding a bike or scooter through the neighbourhoods. If you want an endless feel of the city, sail through the striking archipelago. A ferry ride can last up to three hours and can take you all the way to Sandhamn, the last island before Finland.
DAY 2: PICTURE ME PICTURE YOU
An old waterfront red-brick building houses a photography gallery. Inside you will find wall upon wall of wondrous images and an aura of artistic genius. The exhibition guides are a well-written and a great introduction for photography fans, both novice and expert. It contains works from Robert Mapplethorpe, Annie Leibovitz and David LaChapelle as well as other lesser-known but rising photographers. The Panoramic art gallery that is Fotografiska sits on one of Stockholm’s central islands and is home to many exhibitions and has a cute award-winning restaurant upstairs serving high-quality coffee and wine.
DAY 3: YOURISM EATS EXPERIENCE
Tradgarden is a must-go nightlife spot you have to visit when in Stockholm. The massive courtyard area has Table Tennis and Pétanque. It has an authentic festive feel and a few burger shacks of you’re feeling hungry. It is located Skanstull bridge in Sodermalm. The underground atmosphere is covered in fairy lights. If you prefer serenity over adrenaline, the Loopen bar is for you. It floats and serves you cocktails. What more could you want?
DAY 4: MUSIC TO MY EARS
If you’re a fan of Abba, then you’ll love ‘Mamma Mia! The Party’. It’s a Mediterranean taverna-styled restaurant with a fantastic theatrical dining experience, and it’s all based on the movie and stage musical “Mama Mia!” Abba songs are played through the night so when you finish your food, make sure you get up and dance!
